Antigua enjoyed an award-winning year in 2021! Among some of the most outstanding awards, the city was listed in the prestigious Travel & Leisure World’s Best Awards as the #1 City in Central & South America through their survey. Also, the International Association of Destination Wedding Professionals (IADWP) awarded the Santa Clara Convent in Antigua Guatemala the “Best Wedding Venue” in 2021 within its World Destination Weddings and Romance Travel Awards. Indeed, this 18th century church & convent – renovated in its magnificent ruined form – is a favorite for weddings and events! For 2022, the city continues to develop community-oriented activities with an array of cultural activities – most of them free for visitors. Restoration work continues on some of the 30+ churches and convents that were abandoned when the capital moved in 1773 and, in 1944, became national properties.
